They've just extended the lockdown!

I knew it was going to happen but when I saw tonight that our lockdown has been extended until 15 April at the very least, it kinda knocked the wind out my sails. This is the first day of the enforced confinement that I've felt like this. I guess it's normal and I'm sure people are suffering much worse fates than I am but I have to admit the news of the extended lockdown has been a bit of a damper tonight. That being said, a couple of hours later and I'm fine. I've got loads to do around the house anyway so maybe I will go out and cut the grass tomorrow, just to get out in the sunshine. I haven't wanted to do it because it looks so pretty with the primroses and forget-me-nots but I think my mental health needs a decent workout at the moment.

I sent a message to my friend and he seemed pretty down too, but then he lives in a small place and while he goes out walking every day it's not the same when you have to stay within 1 km of your home and you can only go out for a maximum of one hour, one time during the day. So far I haven't wanted to go out walking but I think that might be next on my list of things to do also. It just feels like such a bloody pain to have to print out the attestation and fill it in just in case I get stopped!

Anyway, enough of this self-pity nonsense. I guess everyone wishes this would all be over and we could get back to our normal lives, although what "normal" will be afterwards I'm not sure. But in the end, I've no business being down. I've got a roof over my head, an income, good medical insurance and there's plenty of food in the shops. Others don't have it so lucky. And seeing that the number of cases of infection in the States has already skyrocketed to over 100,000, if we have to sit out this pandemic in our own homes for a few more weeks then so be it. Stay safe everyone. Normal service will be resumed (in about five hours I reckon. It's 2.30 a.m. here and I'm off to bed)!

  1. I am not capable of walking further than to the mailbox and back, so walking so far would be exceptional to me. We have plenty of food and each other for company.

    1. I think it's the lack of company that got to me last night. Normally it's not a problem but just sometimes ...

  2. It's not even 10 here and I'm looking for my bed so I can work at the call center. I'll get my temp taken and be sanitized before taking my spot. Take care, Anna.

    1. Oh I'll be fine. We've all got to go through this anyway. Stay safe too.

  3. Not surprised either. They announced today that schools here are not reopening and online classes begin Monday.

    1. Like I say, I have no right to moan because I have it easy. I can't imagine trying to cope with a toddler full of energy stuck in an apartment with no school. That would be hell.

  4. I'm not at all surprised and foresee us doing the same in a couple of weeks. I'm just beginning to come to terms with it. I've been struggling to do anything constructive and I've not been able to even concentrate to watch a film or read a book but I can feel a shift in me and I've now started to actually 'do' things that need done and like you, I have plenty to be doing! I think though that we all just wish this was over now and we were all safe and back to normal. Its like being in a nightmare and trying to wake yourself up! I'm going up to see my mum today to try to teach her how to use an iphone with whatsapp so that she can at least see people to talk to. She's not great at technology and we tried to get her to use an iphone before and she failed miserably but that was just after my dad died and I'm hoping that perhaps now she'll be better mentally to learn how to use it. We've tried to make it as simple as possible but do you think anyone from phone companies read your page? If so, please make a phone that has only calls and facetime/whatsapp so elderly people can use them! Less complicated is the way to go! Anyway, sorry about that rant! Take care, stay safe. xx

    1. Rant away me dear. Both my parents are dead but I can imagine trying to get them to use an iPhone. My brother can't even use it. And even my brother who died last year couldn't use it (or the email) and he wasn't stupid. I remember the thrill he got when he managed to send me an email!!!! And I'm glad you said you had a hard time doing anything constructive, as that just hit me like a ton of bricks too. Hopefully it improves soon. Good luck with your mom and stay safe.

  5. Today always seems worse in the middle of the night, but I don’t normally stay up to witness it! Tomorrow’s another day when we are all going to keep doing what we are doing and make sure we get through this epidemic safely.

    1. I know. That's probably half the problem. Should try to get to bed before midnight (before the howling and the hairy chest sets in). It's bright and sunny this morning and everything does indeed look better.

  6. At least your government is doing something to prevent the spread of this horrible virus. Be grateful for that. Here in the US I am quite aware that our nightmare is just beginning. But it's a beautiful, cool, sunny morning and I am grateful for that along with so many other things.

    1. The US frightens me actually. I just hope they can buy time to get themselves sorted/equipped but I suspect it's going to be really bad in the cities. So yes, go out and enjoy the sunshine. It definitely helps.

  7. Luckily, here in the US our :brilliant: leader has decided that by Easter we can go out again.Oh, not because of any medical or scientific evidence, but because his base of rabid Evangelical faux-Christians need to go to church that day.

Seriously. People will get sick and die so he can score points with wingnuts.

    Stay safe. Stay strong.

    1. I think that's what's the most frightening to be honest, the lack of leadership in the US. I imagine India (for example) and Africa are going to get hammered sadly but hopefully their leadership can actually lead - as opposed to what you're dealing with. Take care too Bob.

  8. I wish they would do a full lockdown here for everyone's sake. It's unbelievable how many cases are in the States so far. Hubby was going stir crazy so went to get furnace filters at Home Depot yesterday(they are considered essential, that I don't get). He is Type A so goes stir crazy faster than I do. There was literally only him and a checkout person, so his exposure was almost what it would be at home. They closed every entrance except the contractor one and it looked very ominous. Being outside helps - I even volunteered to mow the lawn the first time this year as hubby was busy and I needed the workout.....that never happens.

    1. It's got to be harder for a Type A personality as they seem to be in constant motion and "lockdown" would be worse for them. I think whichever way we look at it lockdown will be imposed everywhere eventually, and the sooner the better.

  9. I figured that was going to be happening. The store was again busy with nuts again today, evidently the squirrels missed quite a few last fall. Everyday the count goes up in my county, when we hit 30 we head into 'everybody stay home' a friendlier version of lockdown, and we should hit that number in very short time.

    1. I know it's all about the economy (not) but I kinda feel the sooner everyone is in lockdown the quicker they can knock this thing on the head. I presume that would mean you won't be working if you go into "stay home" mode right!
