I mentioned in my previous post that I was watching
Philadelphia Story and really enjoying it, so Dave asked me which version - the Katherine Hepburn version or the Grace Kelly version - both were funny! I thought "damn, they must have
really rewritten that thing to put Tom Hanks in the leading rĂ´le and turn it into such a tearjerker"! Don't get old, as they say!
Oh my gosh-yes, quite very different movies! I still remember seeing Philadelphia in a movie theater and leaving the theater with me, and everyone else with tears literally still down our cheeks. Heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it too - just a shame it took me how many years to watch it?? But then I'm not a big TV person anyway.
DeleteWhat a difference an article makes
ReplyDeleteThe Philadelphia Story or Philadelphia Story
It's THE difference between a comedy and drama
Like the proverbial comma I guess. "Shoot the man, under no circumstances shoot the dog" or "shoot the man under no circumstances, shoot the dog"!
DeleteYou don't want to get those two films confused!
ReplyDeleteI guess it would have been a shock expecting to see Grace Kelly and seeing Tom Hanks instead. But the combination of Hanks, Dishy Denzel and Antonio Banderas did it for me!
DeleteThat is funny and yes, quite different movies, though the one with Tom Hanks is just called "Philadelphia", while the other one is "The Philadelphia Story".
ReplyDeleteI realized it after I had written it, but I'm glad I saw the Hanks film as it was excellent. It's just a shame I waited about 15 years to see it!
DeleteAll three are very good films.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've actually seen The Philadelphia Story in actual fact!
