Making plans for the future!

While I came out of my lazy funk for a few days this week and got a lot done (I finally finished painting and did quite a bit of cleaning), I kinda spaced out again today, wasting way too much time on the computer. But I just saw this online and while I originally thought it was a roller coaster, it's actually a mountain railway in a place called Grimselwelt in Switzerland. Man I have got to give this a shot (it's not even that far away)! And while I have a valid "covid pass" for Switzerland, I've just heard that the Swiss are lifting restrictions on 17 February! There are even rumblings that Macron will have to do the same shortly - because ya know - elections coming up in April! Happy days soon (I hope)!

  1. When you do take that train you must let all of us know about it! It does look more like a roller coaster than a train track!

  2. Are you sure that's a railway?

    1. It's definitely a railway - there's an entire video of it but I can't post it here!

    1. Doesn't it just. When I lived in Switzerland I spent a lot of time exploring but it is very expensive. After I moved into France - well Switzerland got pushed to the side a bit!

    1. I actually don't like rollercoasters (I don't like anything that throws me forwards - side to side, no problem), but I think I'd take one for the team on this one!

    1. I'm the opposite - hate rollercoasters but would give the train a go. Judging by other mountain railways I've been on they go v-e-r-y slowly so the cogs can engage - or at least I hope that'll be the case!

  6. Oh wow that looks interesting. I'm not sure I'll be trying it out but it does look great. The scenery is stunning.

    1. It's not too far from Interlaken, so maybe 4-5 hours from here. I must admit Switzerland dropped off my radar when I moved into France but I think this one is a definite (I just hope it's not as scary as it looks)!

  8. Just taken a look on the official site where the picture of the Gelmerbahn looks more theme park than traditional mountain railway- enough to have me shaking but it certainly looks an interesting area. Hope you get there in the summer.

    1. I watched the video and thought it was more "train" than roller coaster. If it's a roller coaster I don't think I'll bother!

    2. No, you musn't let me put you off -I didn't get beyond the picture so I'm sure it was just a cog train made over to look like a roller coaster when I'd expected to see something more traditional

    1. I spoke to my friend about it yesterday and we are going to go for it when the line (funicular - is that an English word?) opens up in June. Spend a couple of nights up there! I can't wait!
